Attendance Challenge: 20 Classes in 30 Days

    Duration

    30 Days

    Best For

Studios that want more visits per member this month

    Primary Goal

    Increase Attendance + Improve Retention

    Overview

An attendance challenge is the fastest way to move your single most important number: visits per member per month. Members who attend at least eight times a month renew at dramatically higher rates than members who attend three or four times, and an attendance challenge is a direct, honest push toward that line.

The classic version is 20 classes in 30 days, but the target matters less than the tiers. If your average member attends six times a month, a 20-class goal is demotivating for most of your roster. Set milestones at 8, 12, 16 and 20 so the challenge speaks to everyone.

This is also the easiest challenge to operate: check-ins are the only data you need, and progress is unambiguous.

    Goal

Increase visit frequency during the challenge window and pull members over the attendance threshold where retention gets much stronger.

    How It Works

    1. 1Pick a 30-day window and a headline target (20 classes is the standard).
    2. 2Set milestone tiers below the headline — for example 8, 12, 16 and 20 classes.
    3. 3Members join and every check-in counts automatically toward their total.
    4. 4Each milestone reached unlocks a reward and adds entries to the prize drawing.
    5. 5At the end of the month, draw prizes and celebrate everyone who hit a tier.

    Milestone structure

    • 8 classes — the consistency tier, reachable for nearly every active member
    • 12 classes — three visits a week
    • 16 classes — four visits a week
    • 20 classes — the headline goal
    • Bonus: 3 classes in a single week
    • Bonus: attend on 4 consecutive days
    • Bonus: don't miss a Monday
    • Bonus: bring a friend once during the month

    Suggested Rewards

8 ClassesEntry into the prize drawing + studio sticker or shaker
    12 Classes$10 retail credit
16 ClassesFree guest pass to share
20 ClassesFree week, branded hoodie, or grand-prize drawing entry

Weight the drawing so higher tiers get more entries rather than making the top prize winner-take-all. Everyone stays in the game to the last day.

    Promotion Ideas

    • Announce the target and the tiers together — the tiers are what make members opt in.
    • Put a QR code at the check-in desk so joining takes ten seconds.
    • Send a week-two email showing each member how many classes they have left to the next tier.
    • Have instructors call out members who hit a milestone that week.
    • In the final week, email everyone within two classes of a tier.

    Tips for Success

    • Set the top target roughly 2x your average member's monthly visits — ambitious but not absurd.
    • Always include a low tier. The members you want back are at three visits a month, not fifteen.
    • Run it in a month with no long holiday breaks.
    • Publish progress weekly; silent challenges die in week two.
    • Cap it at 30 days. Attendance pushes don't survive longer windows.
