How to Run a Gym Attendance Challenge
Attendance challenges are the highest-leverage retention play a gym can run. They're cheap, fast to set up, and they convert vague intent into a tangible reason to walk through the door. Here's the workflow that consistently works.
1. Pick a tight window
Two to four weeks. Long enough to build a streak, short enough that the deadline feels real. Monthly challenges work great because the calendar resets the energy automatically.
2. Make the entry rule mathematically obvious
"One entry per class, plus a bonus entry every five classes." Members can do that math at the front desk. They know exactly how close they are to their next bonus, and that mental loop is what drives the next visit.
3. Pick prizes that feel native
Branded gear, free month of membership, private session with a senior coach, or a partner-brand bundle. Skip generic gift cards — relevance always beats dollar value.
4. Promote it like you mean it
Email at launch. Instagram post. Front-desk signage and a QR code. Mid-challenge, post a leaderboard. Three days before the deadline, send a "you're X visits from your next bonus" email. Repetition is what reactivates quiet members.
5. Track attendance without friction
Rafflr lets you record attendance manually, upload a CSV from your studio software, or assign entries in bulk. Members see entries update in real time, so the loop stays tight.
6. Make the draw a moment
Hold the draw live in a packed class. Tag winners on social. Thank everyone who participated, not just the winner. The community moment is half the value.
